ARTIST ROOMS: Andy Warhol

Last Sunday I visited the Whitworth Gallery in Manchester, where there is an exhibition of paintings and photographs by Andy Warhol. The majority of the exhibits were created after Warhol was shot in 1968 and pronounced dead but revived when he got to the hospital. This experience, as well as the general political and cultural situation in the US, inspired him to create a variety of paintings from the famous Self-Portrait with Skull (1978) to the Electric Chairs series (1971).

The exhibition consists of 232 works by Andy Warhol, spanning the artist's entire oeuvre and it's a great opportunity for those art geeks, but not only.

Την προηγούμενη Κυριακή επισκέφτηκα τη Whitworth Gallery στο Manchester, όπου βρισκόταν μια έκθεση από πίνακες και φωτογραφίες του Andy Warhol. Το μεγαλύτερο μέρος της έκθεσης δημιουργήθηκε μετά τον πυροβολισμό που δέχτηκε ο Warhol το 1968 και κυρήχθηκε νεκρός αλλά κατόρθωσε να επανέλθει μόλις έφτασε στο νοσοκομείο. Αυτή η εμπειρία, όπως επίσης και η γενικότερη πολιτική και πολιτιστική κατάσταση στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες, τον ενέπνευσε να δημιουργήσει μια μεγάλη ποικιλία από πίνακες ανάμεσα στους οποίους βρίσκεται το διάσημο Self-Portrait with Skull (1978) και το Electric Chairs series (1971).
